Biometric attendance
Biometric attendance records punches using a fingerprint or face on a device at the workplace, sending them to the attendance system automatically.
Devices from ESSL, Realtime, Matrix and others push punch logs over the network or through a cloud bridge. The attendance system maps device user IDs to employees and applies shift rules.
Face devices have replaced fingerprint in many plants since 2020.
In Indian payroll
A device is only as good as its mapping. Payroll errors usually trace to a new joiner enrolled on the machine under the wrong ID, which is why enrolment belongs in onboarding.
