Attendance & leave
Overtime
Overtime is work beyond the standard daily or weekly hours, paid at twice the ordinary rate under the Factories Act and most state shop acts.
Overtime is computed from attendance as hours beyond the shift, subject to a minimum block and approval. The rate is double the ordinary wage rate, including allowances, in factories.
Limits on total overtime per quarter apply and are being relaxed under the OSH Code.
In Indian payroll
Overtime that lives in a supervisor's notebook is where audits and wage disputes begin. Capturing it from punches and paying it through payroll makes it defensible.
