Attendance & leave
Leave balance
Leave balance is the number of days of each leave type an employee has available, after accruals, usage, carry-forward and lapses.
Each leave type has its own ledger: opening balance, monthly or annual accrual, days taken, adjustments, and year-end carry-forward or lapse. Balances are visible to the employee and checked before a request is approved.
The ledger is what leave encashment and F&F are computed from.
In Indian payroll
Under state shop acts, earned leave accrues at roughly one day per 20 worked, and a portion must carry forward. Balances nobody disputes are balances everybody can see.
