Attendance & leave
Sick leaveSL
Sick leave is paid leave for illness, usually 7 to 12 days a year, with a medical certificate required beyond two or three consecutive days.
SL accrues annually or monthly, sometimes carries forward to a cap, and is not encashed. ESI-covered employees can also claim sickness benefit from ESIC at 70 percent of wages for certified illness.
Policies define when a certificate is needed.
In Indian payroll
For ESI members, extended sickness is paid by ESIC, not the employer, so payroll must mark those days correctly rather than as LOP.
