HRMS software in Mumbai
Kuzhu is HR and payroll software for Mumbai companies: finance and fintech at BKC, Nariman Point and Lower Parel, media and production houses in Andheri and Goregaon, corporate offices in Powai and Navi Mumbai, and warehouses and transport operators at Bhiwandi and around JNPT. Payroll with PF, ESI and TDS applies Maharashtra’s professional tax with its exemption for women, the June and December labour welfare fund, and other states’ rules for branches elsewhere.

What month end looks like in Mumbai
Maharashtra PT is not one number
The deduction changes with the salary band, women are exempt below a threshold, February carries a higher amount, and returns are monthly or annual depending on last year’s liability; every one of those is a manual exception in a spreadsheet.
Head office in Mumbai, people everywhere
A finance or media company runs payroll for a BKC office, a Pune back office, a Gurugram sales team and field staff in five states; each state’s professional tax, welfare fund and holiday list is a tab someone maintains from memory.
Warehouse shifts nobody sees from Andheri
Logistics operators with godowns at Bhiwandi and drivers on the road get attendance as a WhatsApp photo of a register; overtime and night shifts are paid on the supervisor’s word and disputed on payday by the people who kept their own count.
With Kuzhu
How the modules answer it
Every module reads the same employee record, so nothing below is an integration; it is one system seen from four sides.

Maharashtra professional tax, every exception
Salary-band slabs, the exemption for women below the threshold, the higher February deduction so the year totals correctly, return summaries at the frequency your liability requires and the labour welfare fund in June and December, computed per employee inside the run.
Payroll module
One company, many states, one payroll
Each branch carries its state, so professional tax, welfare fund and holidays follow the employee’s work location; the Mumbai run covers Pune, Gurugram and the field team in one pass with state-wise summaries for each deposit.
Employees & Org Structure moduleGodown punches, driver GPS
Biometric devices at Bhiwandi and GPS-tagged punches from drivers and field staff land on one muster, judged against shifts and overtime rules, so the Andheri office sees the same day what the supervisor saw at the gate.
Attendance module
Fits the systems a Mumbai office already has
REST API and webhooks for joiner and leaver events and exports in your accounting and bank-upload formats, available on Enterprise, so the HR system feeds the finance stack a Mumbai office already runs rather than sitting beside it.

What is different about payroll in Maharashtra
PF, ESI and TDS are the same everywhere in India. These are the parts that follow the state, configured per branch so a company with people in two states runs both correctly.
Professional tax
Maharashtra levies professional tax by monthly salary band, with an exemption for women below a threshold and a higher deduction in one month so the year totals a fixed sum; the employer holds an enrolment certificate for itself and a registration certificate for employee deductions. Figures are in the table on this page.
Labour welfare fund
The Maharashtra Labour Welfare Fund contribution is deducted from salary in June and December, with the employer adding three times the employee’s share, and paid to the Maharashtra Labour Welfare Board; it covers employees of establishments and factories under the Act.
Shops & Establishments
Offices with ten or more workers register under the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2017 through the labour department’s online portal; smaller ones file an intimation. Working hours, weekly off and leave entitlements follow the Act.
Holidays
The Maharashtra government list, with Maharashtra Day on 1 May, Gudi Padwa and Ganesh Chaturthi, is the default calendar; banks and broking firms that follow the exchange or Negotiable Instruments Act holiday list set that per branch instead.
Professional tax in Maharashtra
Deducted from salary every month by slab. Women are exempt up to ₹25,000. The top slab is ₹300 in February so the year totals ₹2,500.
| Gross salary | Professional tax |
|---|---|
| Up to ₹7,500 a month | Nil |
| ₹7,501 to ₹10,000 a month | ₹175 |
| Above ₹10,000 a month | ₹200 |

Questions Mumbai companies ask on the first call
How does Maharashtra professional tax work for a Mumbai company?
Employees are taxed by monthly salary band, women earning below a threshold are exempt, and the top band pays a higher amount in February so the year totals a fixed sum; the slab table on this page has the figures. The company holds its own enrolment certificate and a registration certificate for deducting from staff. Kuzhu applies all of it automatically.
Do you have an office or team in Mumbai?
No. Kuzhu is built and supported from Udaipur. Mumbai implementations run over video in two to four weeks, with data import, configuration, training and a parallel payroll reconciled to the rupee before switching. After go-live, support is by phone, WhatsApp and email in English or Hindi, with the same team throughout.
We have people in six states. Can one payroll run cover them?
Yes. Each employee’s work location decides their professional tax, labour welfare fund and holiday list, so Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana and Delhi staff run in the same payroll with state-wise summaries for each deposit. PF, ESI and TDS are central and computed once for everyone in the same run.
Is our data kept in India, and can we get it out?
Yes. Each company has its own database hosted in India, encrypted in transit and at rest, with role-based access and a full audit trail. You can export everything at any time and for 90 days after cancellation, which matters for finance and media companies with their own audit obligations.
