Compensatory off is paid leave granted in place of working on a holiday or week-off, usually to be used within a fixed window.
When an employee works on a rest day, they earn a comp-off credited to a separate balance with an expiry, often 30 to 90 days. It is taken like leave, with approval.
It is an alternative to paying overtime, where the law allows.
