Attrition
Attrition is the rate at which employees leave, calculated as leavers in a period divided by average headcount, usually annualised and split into voluntary and involuntary.
Monthly attrition of 2 percent is about 24 percent a year. Splitting by tenure, team and reason code shows where the problem is; regretted versus non-regretted separates a problem from housekeeping.
It is the most watched HR number and the least consistently defined.
In Indian payroll
IT services and BPO run 15 to 30 percent; manufacturing far lower. The exit interview reason codes are what make the number actionable.
