Exit interview

An exit interview is a structured conversation with a leaving employee about why they are going and what could have kept them, used to reduce attrition.

Conducted by HR, not the manager, with a standard set of questions, and recorded against reason codes so trends can be analysed across the year.

It is most useful when the reasons feed a report someone reads.

In Indian payroll

Compensation, manager and growth are the usual top three. The exit data is worth more than the interview if it is coded consistently.
