Exit
Relieving letter
A relieving letter confirms that an employee has been released from their duties on a stated date after completing exit formalities, and is required by most next employers.
Issued with the experience letter after clearance from IT, finance and admin and after F&F is agreed. It states the designation and dates of employment.
Withholding it is a common dispute; policies should state the conditions.
In Indian payroll
Exit clearance, asset recovery, F&F and the letters form one checklist. Generating the letter from the record on the day clearance completes ends the follow-up emails.
