Notice period
The notice period is the time an employee or employer must give before ending employment, typically 30 to 90 days, with pay in lieu for any shortfall.
It is stated in the appointment letter and may differ during probation. An employee who leaves early pays notice-period recovery, computed on basic or gross per policy; an employer that asks someone to leave early pays notice pay.
Buy-out by the new employer is common in IT.
In Indian payroll
GST on notice-period recovery has been litigated; current rulings treat it as not a supply. Payroll computes the recovery in F&F from the resignation and last-working-day dates.
