Appointment letter
An appointment letter is the employment contract issued on or before joining, confirming the terms of the offer and the policies the employee is bound by.
It states designation, date of joining, salary, probation, notice, confidentiality, place of work and applicable policies, and is signed by both sides.
Several state shop acts and the labour codes require a written appointment letter.
In Indian payroll
Issue it from a template on letterhead, keep the signed copy on the record, and reference the policy handbook rather than copying it in.
