Performance
Appraisal
An appraisal is the periodic review of an employee's performance against goals, producing a rating that drives increments, promotions and development plans.
A cycle sets goals, collects self and manager reviews (and peer or 360 input), calibrates ratings across teams, and closes with letters. Annual is common; many companies add a mid-year check-in.
Ratings on a forced curve are being replaced by calibrated distributions.
In Indian payroll
April is appraisal season and increment letters follow. Running it in a system means the rating, the increment and the new structure are linked, and arrears compute themselves.
