Tax
Investment declaration
An investment declaration is the employee's statement at the start of the year of the deductions and exemptions they plan to claim, so TDS can be computed correctly; proofs follow in January.
Form 12BB captures HRA rent, home-loan interest, 80C investments, 80D insurance and other deductions. Payroll uses the declared amounts to project tax until proofs are verified.
Unproven declarations are reversed in the last quarter, which is why March TDS can jump.
In Indian payroll
A self-service window for declarations and proof upload, with reminders, replaces the January email chain. Under the new regime most of the form is irrelevant, which simplifies things for many employees.
