Form 24Q

Form 24Q is the quarterly return of TDS on salaries that every employer files, with the fourth quarter carrying full-year salary details for each employee.

Due on 31 July, 31 October, 31 January and 31 May, it lists each employee's PAN, salary paid and tax deducted and deposited, matched to challans. The Q4 return includes Annexure II with the annual computation from which Form 16 Part B is derived.

Late filing costs ₹200 a day; wrong PANs lead to 20 percent TDS and notices.

In Indian payroll

Filing from the payroll run, using the TRACES utility or a filing partner, keeps challans and deductions matched. A mismatch shows up as a demand notice months later.
