EDLIEmployees' Deposit Linked Insurance

EDLI is a life-insurance benefit attached to PF, funded by an employer contribution of 0.5 percent of wages up to ₹15,000, paying up to ₹7 lakh to a member's family.

Every PF member is covered automatically. The employer pays 0.5 percent of PF wages (capped at the ceiling) and there is no employee share.

The benefit is linked to average wages over the last twelve months and the account balance, with a maximum of ₹7 lakh.

In Indian payroll

EDLI appears as a separate line in the ECR and in the employer cost. Employers with a better group term policy can apply for exemption from it.
